ABOUT BARAKA

Baraka Community Care Center is envisaged by a group of Catholic Priests from the Congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), from India. Our purpose of coming to Kenya is to make known Jesus Christ by words and deeds. We are here to give life and life in abundance (Jn 10:10b) as Jesus our role model did and our founder St. Kariakose Elias Chavara followed. Our mission is to lead the people to the true light –Jesus, to heal their physical and inner wounds, and free them from every bondages of inhuman values, to uplift them to an integral life of peace, love and unity as the family of God. Our Mission is to free the children of God from all bondages (material, Physical and spiritual) (Lk 4:18), and give reorientation to be fully human and to be fully divine. We fulfill our vision by assisting the needy people for their education, agricultural training, health and hygiene projects and other community projects related to schools and drinking water. We do whatever is possible good to the people of god.

Where we work:

We work at the foot of Mount kenya, mainly in Likipia county and partly in Nyeri county. Our main office is situated at Nanyuki and we expanded to Narumoru village in 2014. Our site is a semi arid area and most of the time people rely on rain for cultivation and infact the farming is the main source of income. Some involves in some small scale business and others live in slums.  The climate is almost dry all the time and some of the people are nomads. Poverty, malnutrition, and HIV are the main threat for the area. The schools in our villages are not conducive for the comfortable study of children.

What we do:

we support the neediest children for their education through sponsorship program, school feeding programs providing lunch to the children to attract them to the school. We involve parents to assist the cultivation in schools and we give them training in modern and urban farming methods. We involve in community projects of building class rooms for schools, providing better sanitation facilities with toilets to the schools, empowering with small scale business support. We assist the street children for their rehabilitation, disabled children and abandoned elders through our activities. We give them mental and spiritual support through counseling and guidance program. We work with the people who lost their hope in the prison and the youth in and around by out reaching programs and encourage them to achieve their goals. For family empowerment we have microfinance groups. We have a model farm with fish pond, piggery, poultry, cow and goat rearing units.

FAMILY VISIT IN GACHAGI VILLAGE, NANYUKI

Baraka staff members visited the family of one of our sponsored children today. As we live in a comfort zone, it was so painful for us to see them staying with the domestic animals (dogs, goose & chicken) in a slum-like place. We greeted them, spent time with them and distributed food materials to the family. They were so happy to see us together with the family members. We pray that may the good God give us and the people around us the strength and the generous heart to help the needy. Let us share the message of Christ through service. COUNT THE BLESSINGS WE ENJOY                  AND BE THANKFUL TO GOD AND THE BENEFACTORS!

CHALICE FAMILY RENEWAL PROGRAMS

In Baraka Site, Chalice offers family renewal programs at Naromoru. In Naromoru, this centre is known as Chavara Renewal Centre (Carmel Garden) . Here we concentrate the  sacramental life of the family members; especially the Eucharist, Catholic Marriage and their communal life in the Church. It offers talks on how to live better their Catholic faith in their marriage, how to build a strong Christian family and teach the faith to their children. Fr. Joy Chirayath, CMI leads the main sessions here. This renewal program includes talks, prayer sessions (praise and worship) and the Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament. It also aims at healing and deliverance of the individual Christian. This program offers one day session (on every second Saturdays) and the three days (begins on every second Sundays) residential renewal programs . Many people come here and experience God and renew their life as well as their families.                                                                  AL
