Baraka Community
Care Center is envisaged by a group of Catholic Priests from the Congregation
of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), from India. Our purpose of coming to
Kenya is to make known Jesus Christ by words and deeds. We are here to give
life and life in abundance (Jn 10:10b) as Jesus our role model did and our
founder St. Kariakose Elias Chavara followed. Our mission is to lead the people
to the true light –Jesus, to heal their physical and inner wounds, and free
them from every bondages of inhuman values, to uplift them to an integral life
of peace, love and unity as the family of God. Our Mission is to free the
children of God from all bondages (material, Physical and spiritual) (Lk 4:18),
and give reorientation to be fully human and to be fully divine. We fulfill our
vision by assisting the needy people for their education, agricultural
training, health and hygiene projects and other community projects related to
schools and drinking water. We do whatever is possible good to the people of
god.
Where we work:
We
work at the foot of Mount kenya, mainly in Likipia county and partly in Nyeri
county. Our main office is situated at Nanyuki and we expanded to Narumoru
village in 2014. Our site is a semi arid area and most of the time people rely
on rain for cultivation and infact the farming is the main source of income.
Some involves in some small scale business and others live in slums. The climate is almost dry all the time and
some of the people are nomads. Poverty, malnutrition, and HIV are the main
threat for the area. The schools in our villages are not conducive for the
comfortable study of children.
What we do:
we support the neediest children for their education through sponsorship
program, school feeding programs providing lunch to the children to attract
them to the school. We involve parents to assist the cultivation in schools and
we give them training in modern and urban farming methods. We involve in community
projects of building class rooms for schools, providing better sanitation
facilities with toilets to the schools, empowering with small scale business
support. We assist the street children for their rehabilitation, disabled
children and abandoned elders through our activities. We give them mental and
spiritual support through counseling and guidance program. We work with the
people who lost their hope in the prison and the youth in and around by out
reaching programs and encourage them to achieve their goals. For family
empowerment we have microfinance groups. We have a model farm with fish pond,
piggery, poultry, cow and goat rearing units.
