Together with the social workers we planned to have an outside classroom activity for the school children so we decide to host a football tournament at Wathituga primary school on 16th June 2017 along with the tournament we celebrated the day of the African Children’s day. Due to lack of time and also proper funds to facilitate on the event, we decided to invite few primary schools, boys’ football teams only.
The event started at 9:00 am and ended at 4:30 pm. It was a good competitive match but finally Muthaiga Primary School emerged the winner by beating Katheri Primary School for the goal 2:0 and they became the winners of the day and the tournament champions as well.
We gave the winning team that was Muthaiga Primary a first position trophy which was received by the school team captain and the games teacher trophy was presented to them by the Wathituga Primary School deputy head teacher. Muthaiga Primary School went home with smiley and happy faces having emerged the winners of the day. Position two, runners was Katheri Primary School so with gifts position two; trophy was received by the school team captain and was presented to him by the Muthaiga games teacher. Position three was Wathituga primary and was gifted with the Football and was presented to them by Katheri games teacher. And other losers were also given football as a token of appreciation. All the participants were also well fed with Bread and Milk and they were energized with Glucose and other snacks.
Our BARAKA sites African children’s day and football day ended up well. It was a day to be remembered by our schools because other than classroom work our children could do something big and good in the field too. We as a site saw it was good to interact with other school children, brings unity and togetherness among them, to nurture talents of the children in the field and it is a chance to forget the worries and family economical and other problems too. In future we hope with more funds we would be able to host a big tournament for both boys and girls in all the school we support.
It was a good day with full protection from God that no injuries occurred and good cooperation from all the site staffs and teachers from various schools which made our day successful. We as a site are looking forward to host more tournaments in order to build talents of the young boys and girls in schools.
