Kenya's people are, according to the United Nations, one of the most struggling populations in the world. With a population of approximately 36.6 million and an annual population growth of approximately 2.6%, the country's poverty index has also continued to steadily rise. The present water crisis in Naromoru, Kenya is the result of three things: Less than normal rainfall over the last 2 years Illegal abstraction of water from our rivers. Inadequate water harvesting and water storage and mismanagement of water for agriculture.   And at that crisis, the Canadian Non-profit organisation, CHALICE helped the poor people and farmers of Naromoru, Kenya, to have a borehole to solve the water crisis there. Carmel Garden, Naromoro colabrated with THE NYERI-NYAHURURU DIOCESIAN Youth GROUP and IRIGITHANI Holy family PARISH CONDUCTED ANNUAL MISSION WEEK from 25th June to 3rd July 2017 The Nyeri-Nyahururu diocesian youth group is an affiliate group of Moi University Catholic Students’ Association (MUCSA). It consists of students from Nyeri Arch-diocese and Nyahururu diocese. The group takes part in the annual mission week conducted during holidays in our Carmel Garden, Naromoro. This year, the group was joined by visitors such as friends and alumni of the group, giving a total of 40 people. Staying in our Carmel Garden cottages. Activities: 1. Following the outbreak of drought disaster we decide to conduct a school feeding program to some schools with the help of nutrition program. We managed to distribute the daily food to Muthaiga primary, Katheri primary, Gitero primary and Tigithi primary schools. The food item which was in the package was Maize, beans, carrots, onions, tomatoes, cabbages, rice, green grams, salt and cooking oil. The feeding program has helped in these schools because the children get enough food in school and therefore they are always present in class. The schools are very grateful to the Chalice organization and Baraka Community Care Center, Nanyuki for such a grate assistance which is very positive to the school. Katheri primary were very grateful because it was their first time to receive such a donation although their population was very high. Together with the social workers we planned to have an outside classroom activity for the school children so we decide to host a football tournament at Wathituga primary school on 16th June 2017 along with the tournament we celebrated the day of the African Children’s day. Due to lack of time and also proper funds to facilitate on the event, we decided to invite few primary schools, boys’ football teams only. The event started at 9:00 am and ended at 4:30 pm. It was a good competitive match but finally Muthaiga Primary School emerged the winner by beating Katheri Primary School for the goal 2:0 and they became the winners of the day and the tournament champions as well. We gave the winning team that was Muthaiga Primary a first position trophy which was received by the school team captain and the games teacher trophy was presented to them by the Wathituga Primary School deputy head teacher.
